What are warehouse rack labels?

The wonderful world of warehouse labels is a deceptively deep topic. They can help you identify locations, keep track of inventory, designate areas for certain product types, or even highlight important messaging in the case of floor labels.

With effective warehouse labelling, your operations will run more smoothly and efficiently, with reduced picking errors and clearer visual identification.

And who doesn't want that? (No one, that's who.)

What types of warehouse rack labels are there?

Long story short: All sorts!

We're talking…

  • Paper-based
  • Vinyl
  • Polyester
  • Magnetic
  • Block-out

You can even laminate over the top of vinyl warehouse labels to provide scratch, spill, and UV resistance. (Additionally, it deepens and brightens colours to enhance the look and feel of the labels!)

The right type of rack label will depend on the requirements of the workplace, from warehouses to offices to schools and more.

What's the difference between a label holder and a ticket holder?

This is a question we get a lot, and thankfully there's a simple answer!

The main difference is ticket holder inserts are top-loading, whereas label holder inserts slide in from the side.

Magnetic label holders also tend to be more flexible than their magnetic ticket holder counterparts, and don't require a totally flat, sealed surface to affix to.

For long lengths of labelling, we highly recommend using ticket holders as top-loading the inserts will be much easier than side-entry!

What exactly goes on warehouse labels?

Warehouse labels are mini information hubs, providing information on:

  • Aisle
  • Bay
  • Level
  • Bin Location

They can also be incorporated with check digits to help prevent mistakes, and barcodes for inventory scanning.

How do I stick warehouse labels around my warehouse?

Most labels come with adhesive backs, so you can simply peel and stick. Other labels might use magnets, depending on your preference. Whatever the case, the key is to make sure the label is visible and securely attached.

However, DIY label installs rarely go smoothly, due to:

  • Loss of productivity – using internal warehouse workers creates its own set of labour challenges
  • Overruns – DIY installations often take longer to complete than those carried out by specialists
  • Mistakes – Out of sequence labels mean costly re-prints and re-installations
  • Poor end results – In-house workers rarely have the experience required to ensure the labels effectively adhere to the surface

As such, we highly recommend using an experienced labelling manufacturer to install any location labelling system.

Can I personalise warehouse labels?

Of course! You can customise our warehouse labels with different colours, barcodes, directional arrows, and check digits to help create a solution that meets your specific needs.

When should I replace warehouse labels?

Keep an eye on high-traffic areas. If labels start looking tired, it’s time to swap them out to ensure clear information and less chance of confusion.

You can also use ticket and label holders to provide a layer of armour, keeping labels safe and sound inside.
