Recycling is one of the easiest ways for a warehouse to become ‘eco friendly’, and can even reduce the cost of waste disposal for your company. This article explains which recycling sorting bins your warehouse needs, to simplify the process of going ‘green’. 

USA Today claims that for most countries, the construction industry generates more than 90% of industrial waste. However, reducing your environmental impact can be as easy as implementing a few simple changes. 

Solely by adding recycling bins to your warehouse floor, you can dramatically reduce your carbon footprint without affecting productivity or the bottom line. 

Types of Waste:

RAJA UK, part of Europe’s leading packaging supplier, the RAJA Group, supplies an extensive range of packaging products and systems to markets across the UK and Ireland from its new 260,000 sq. ft. central warehouse and distribution facility in Brogborough near Bedford.

There, investment in 50 new hardwearing polypropylene racksack’s is part of a range of Beaverswood products that are reaping benefits, with the company reporting improved segregation and management of waste materials as a team of 60 pickers process hundreds of orders on a daily basis.

Suspended from the end of shelving racks, racksack’s support picking operations, helping to keep the workspace tidy and free from potential slip or trip hazards. It also contributes to saving space, as operatives can handily dispose of paper, plastic, clips and other waste produce, which is then gathered and sent for offsite recycling.

New Waste Management System Cleans Up At International Packaging Company

 

A new racksack® system from Beaverswood is improving the collection and segregation of waste at one of the UK and Ireland’s largest suppliers of industrial packaging and food service products.

Zeus Packaging (UK) Ltd, which is a leading specialist in distribution and manufacturing, supplying a diverse range of products to a wide range of markets both globally and in the UK, recently invested in 50 new hard-wearing racksack’s at its 97,000 sq. ft. warehouse and distribution centre in Biggleswade in Bedfordshire.

The move is already reaping rewards, with the company reporting significant improvements in the efficient segregation and management of waste materials as staff pick and fulfil delivery orders in a 24/7 operation.

Suspended from the end of each shelving line, labelled racksack’s support picking operations, helping to keep the workplace tidier and free from potential slip or trip hazards. It also contributes to saving valuable floor space, as pickers are able to handily dispose of cardboard, paper, plastic ties, clips and other waste, which is then emptied into onsite balers and skips before being sent for offsite recycling.

Zeus Packaging estimates that its investment in the new racksack system, which sees waste segregated as orders are processed and shipped, rather than laboriously gathered up and sifted at the end of each shift, will deliver significant savings in the long term.

It is also contributing to general all-round improvements in housekeeping performance at a busy operational site, while supporting a safer working environment for the sizeable Biggleswade workforce.



Brian Davey, Regional Packaging Consultant at Zeus Packaging, who assisted in the implementation of the new system, said the company plans to incorporate further racksack systems at its other sites in West Bromwich and Norwich following the success of the first installation.

He said: “We have invested in the racksack in order to assist with our good housekeeping and to help with waste segregation, which makes us more efficient and helps us to push on with our recycling programme throughout the company. Although it’s early days, we recognise its benefits and it is now our intention to invest further with systems at all our other UK depots.”

There is a large increase in the landfill tax year on year with businesses seeking new ways to segregate & recycle more warehouse waste products, not only from an economical point of view but environmental as well. This waterproof polyester sack with its supplied “S” hook fixings is perfect not only for use on racking & shelving but can be quickly and easily used on other substrates. The sack has been designed with quality in mind & can be re-used withstanding the rigours of a busy environment. The racksack features a large open mouth to easily receive waste and with its tapered design it will not intrude into valuable warehouse space. Three strong handles are double stitched into the edge of the sack, one on each side for carrying and one on the base, so that the sack can be easily titled from the base and emptied.

New – Mobile Waste Recycling

Rather than just having semi-fixed waste recycling stations Beaverswood has introduced 2 new sacks that are designed to move around the warehouse with the personnel, these sacks either fit onto trolleys or roll cages to keep the whole warehouse and workplace neat and tidy

Trolley sacks are available in a choice of single or double pockets and can be used with trolleys up to 580mm wide. Cagesacks are ideal for use on mesh roll containers up to 800mm wide. Both are made from tough waterproof polyester and can adequately withstand the rigours of an industrial environment. Fits either by hooking over the sides or can also be secured via eyelets in the top corners.
