Big news from Beaverswood® HQ: We’ve adopted a trio of beavers at Drusillas Park! Meet Jasper, Daggett, and Norbert — the newest (and furriest) members of our family. It’s safe to say Chipper is in his element and we’re absolutely buzzing about this beaver-y exciting development.
Why Adopt Beavers?
As a company, Beaverswood® has always championed sustainability and environmental awareness. But let’s be honest — with a name like Beaverswood®, how could we not? Beavers are not only nature’s engineers, creating wetlands that improve biodiversity and reduce flooding, but they also reflect the industrious spirit behind our brand. Adopting Jasper, Daggett, and Norbert is our way of celebrating the synergy between our name and these incredible creatures while supporting their care and conservation.
Meet the Family:
These three are North American beavers, the second-largest rodents in the world (just behind capybaras, who share their enclosure!).
- Jasper – The Dad: Jasper is the calm and steady leader of the family. He’s an expert dam builder, and you’ll often find him gnawing away at logs or supervising Daggett and Norbert.
- Daggett – The Wild One: Full of energy and always up to mischief, Daggett’s the life of the pond. He’s usually the first to start a game of “who can slap their tail louder.”
- Norbert – The Thinker: Norbert is a bit more laid-back, preferring to take his time when building dams or exploring his surroundings. He’s definitely the brains of the family.

Fun Facts About Beavers:
- Beavers’ teeth never stop growing! Their orange teeth are reinforced with iron, making them super strong and perfect for gnawing, they need to chew on wood to keep them at the right length.
- They can stay underwater for up to 15 minutes – talk about natural divers! Their transparent eyelids act like goggles while swimming.
- Their tails aren’t just for slapping – they also act as rudders for swimming, props for sitting and alarms when slapped on water to warn of danger.
- Beavers are nature’s engineers! Their dams can reach massive sizes - one in Alberta, Canada, is over 850 meters long!
- A group of beavers is called a “lodge,” which is also what they call their homes. It’s a beaver’s world; we’re just living in it!
- By building dams and ponds, they help improve water quality, reduce flooding, and provide habitats for other wildlife. Beavers are true ecosystem heroes.
How You Can Help Too
